Tonight is Christmas night and it has been the best Christmas with my kids. These past few weeks have been filled with excitement and disappointment. Disappointment with the fact that an ice storm hit and ruined my 40 BIRTHDAY celebration. And when I say ruined, I mean ruined. Mom and I shopped and shopped to make my house beautiful and Ryan worked hard to make it beautiful and wonderful. Casey was going to fly in from Californian and all. But it was not meant to be.
So, after suffering though all that who knew what Christmas would bring? Well, the week leading up to it was great. They were filled with parties at school with the kids and fun. I took the kids to see FROZEN the day the kids got out of school. It was a cute movie and we had fun.
Then, we got all the presents wrapped and ready for Christmas. We were all ready for some fun. Then, we woke up Christmas Eve morning and I made snowman pancakes. We make iced sugar cookies for Santa and we make food for the reindeer. That evening the kids were in the pageant at church. We had a shepherd and two kings. They did a great job and were the most handsome in the show.
We went to gigi and papa's house and ate dinner and the boys opened early presents and had a great time. My parents even employed the "What's it?" game with my kids that Grandma Grammer played with them when they were young. And you know what? They did great on guessing the what's it.
We finished dinner and then decided it was time to go home so we hit some great neighborhoods with lights before we hit home.
This morning the boys knew Santa had been there. Presents galore!!!
Everyone was so happy and sweet and thankful.
My parents came for presents and dinner later in the day and we were so happy.
We are beyond grateful and happy and thankful for our blessings.
Merry Christmas to al!! And sweet blessings in your life!

It's a virus time
Well, without fail a virus has invaded the Walton household. Friday night we had our neighbors over for a cocktail. Boys were all hyper and happy. Saturday morning, Big came and got Sam and to go to Landry's volleyball game (he had a blast) and then got to stay the night over at the Hudmans. Hayes starts feeling bad and has a temperature. Sunday, Hayes and Ben both have a temperature. Hayes actually gets to 104. Yikes! Ben is 102 yesterday and doctor said it was a cold. My foot it is a cold. Colds don't usually have you running a high fever. At least Hayes got to go to school today. Ben is home and he is chatty cathy. Oh boy! Anyway, here's to crossing my fingers Sam stays well. It is probably just a matter of time for that one.
On another note - Ben and Hayes story:
They are in the bath and I hear them talking. They are always so funny when they chat together. Ben asked Hayes if he was born a girl would he like it. Hayes gave an adamant NO. Ben tried to reason with him that if he was born a girl he would like it because he would not know the difference. Hayes tried to get Ben to understand that it did not matter, he would never want to be a girl! This went on for 5 minutes before Ben just gave up. They are some funny boys!

Enablers
Tonight we are headed to Sam's baseball game at 6. We are waiting on the pizza, me, Ben and Hayes, and the door bell rings. Pizza delivery - we are ready for you. I opened the door and was holding Cora. She is a wiggly worm and so I stick her in our bedroom and close the door. I know if she gets down she will bolt like lightening.
I am signing the ticket and next thing I know, Cora is licking the pizza man. Ben had opened the door, I am supposing just to see what would happen. Needless to say the dog takes off like a shot and trailing behind? Two little boys, screeching at the top of their lungs quite happily. I walk out with the pizza in my hand thinking that they will catch her and come back and boom, done.
Do you think that really happens? If Sam had been here, then yes. Unfortunately, it was Ben and Hayes and they rather run screaming thru the neighborhood, laughing, yelling out Cora! Good Lawsy!
I am annoyed! Front door is open, socks are on the feet, sweats are on the body and neighbor is out watching. At this point, the boys and dog are almost half way to front of the neighborhood.
Thank goodness my very nice neighbor offers me his car (he has just pulled up). At this point I contemplate take 10 minutes to: Run back in, put pizza down, scrounge for keys, get into car, pull out and try to find the dog and kids. Or, take 1 minute and take the lovely offer of my nice neighbor, Mr. Bryan by the way. Easy choice. I grab his keys and go after the hooligans.
Here they come running back toward my house and I open the door and call Cora, who comes straight to me. Go back to Mr. Bryan's and get out and thank him so much for his assistance.
Kids are already back in the house. Who is in the dog house at this point? I will give a hint - it is not Cora!
The boys lost their concession stand privilege at the game that night for that little stunt. FYI, they were not any better at the game and we ended up having to leave the game early.
Fun times! Well, yes, they are truly the best. No matter what happens, I love my life and my babies!!!!

It is October already
School started 6 weeks ago - it has flown by - we just got our first 6 week report card on Friday. All the boys did great with Sam making on the honor roll. Before that was some drama. Ben was moved classes for the better. Love his new teacher so so much! Sam and Hayes both have great teachers too.
We are almost done with fall baseball. Ben and Sam have played and both done great. Sam is becoming quite the excellent player and Ben is making coach pitch look easy. Well, I may exaggerate about Ben but he is good and today he got the game ball!!
A few fun stories:
- Hayes had to move his clip down and I asked it was because he was talking and he said no that someone was talking to him. I asked if he talked back and he said, no, he was whispering. Same thing buddy.
- Went to a mexican restaurant last night and Sam got a virgin margarita to celebrate his good grades. Well, Ben had to potty and I took him. I thought I would go in with him but being the 6 1/2 year old he is, no. He opened the mens room door and I said, wait that is the mens. He said, I am a men.
- This morning Ben and Hayes and I started talking about cigars and pipes for some reason. Hayes said "I know what a pipe is, it blows bubbles."
So, the boys are still funny and sweet and innocent. I love it!
Also, Papa made Ben an awesome headboard from a picture I found on Pinterest. Awesome Papa!!!

Angels on our shoulder
Oh holy cow what I have to tell. Yesterday morning, I took the kids to school and ran to CVS for a couple of things. Hayes had stayed home because he had an upset tummy. Ryan was still in bed. I pulled into the garage and thought it looked like it was hazy. Which is weird right? I opened my car door and it smelled electrical. For sure, bad news!
I tore through the house and told Ryan. He got fire extinguishers and I called 911. We could not find the source, no fire anywhere that we could see. But we could smell the electrical smell.
Three firetrucks pulled up. The firemen looked and looked and finally found that the wires on the compressor on the freezer in the garage looked melted. The compressor kicked on and out shoots a small flame. Unplug it and we are good.
Thank you to all those wonderful firefighters who made us feel safe after a scary situation!
Angels were looking out for us yesterday because it happened in the morning and I just happened to be pulling into the garage at the right time. Whew! Praise be to God!

Retirement!
Well, yesterday was my last day of work. While I am so excited, it is also bittersweet. I am going to be at the school volunteering all the time! But, I have all this legal stuff knocking around the noggin that is going to waste. Raising my babies to be respectful, kind and loving men is my priority though.
So, I was in my closet with Hayes last night and I said, "I am so happy I am done with work." Hayes said, "I am happy for you mommy." HOW SWEET IS THAT FROM MY LITTLE 6 YEAR OLD?????

Abandon Ship
Hayes told Gig and Papa that Ben pushed him out of the way (in the womb) and that is why Ben was first. And then Hayes said he yelled "Abandon Ship Abandon Ship." Which is kind of funny since I was there and that did not happend :)

My signature move
Hayes told me he would like wrestling lessons because he wants to wrestle when he grows up.
He added that he was really good at it and said, "Do you know what my signature move is?"
I said, "No, what?"
He said, "It is screaming."
Ummm, ok. That is not really a wrestling move but whatever works I guess :)

Two Texas Ranger Legends!
Lauren and Lance were generous to have a group of kids and parents out to their Rocker B Ranch for a wonderful game of baseball with two Texas Ranger legends.....Nolan Ryan and Ivan Rodriguez!
They were the coaches for the two teams and each of the boys got a hit! We were probably more excited than the boys :)

Then, we stayed at the ranch and played.
Summer = Vacation
Well, off to Florida we went for our third annual summer getaway. Translation: awesome fun!
We had a wonderful trip and are looking forward to returning again next year. It was eventful and also relaxing. We spent days on the beach building sandcastles, burying each other in the sand and surfing the waves. We rented bikes and rode all around town getting donuts from the donut truck, getting candy from the sugar shack and shopping around at the boutiques.
Hayes decided to be Indiana Jones and slash the waves. He loved the salty water again this year thank goodness. The boys were so tired towards the end of the week that while Hayes was being Indiana, Ben and Sam pooped out in the beach chairs under the umbrella for some rest.
Even though we were on vacation, the boys still acted like brothers with the fighting and teasing. Case in point, one morning Ben comes in because he has been hit on the back of the head with the XBox controller by Hayes. Goose egg. Then, about 30 min later, he comes in with a huge scratch down his face curtesy of Sam.
Hayes had his own special moments. At dinner in Rosemary one night he dropped his drink on the ground. As I stood to go around to him and pick it up, he shoved the table back and toppled the wine bottle and my wine glass over. Red wine, everywhere. Then he proceeds to stand up in his chair and flip backwards onto the sidewalk. Classic. The last morning there, Hayes was still on his roll. We went to the donut trust and then the boys splashed in the water fountain. He then decided to throw his sandals into the palm tree and got them stuck. He says he was trying to get down the beach ball that was up there, and I am sure he probably was, his little 6 year old self did not think of the consequences though and pouted for half an hour about never getting those shoes back. Thankfully, they were like 8 dollars from Target.
One day we went to Seaside where we ate our fabulous lobster rolls and the boys had grilled cheese and hot dogs from the food trucks. Apparently, we picked a good day for this as the beach in Rosemary was closed due to shark sitings. Yikes!
We decided to pit stop in good ole New Orleans on the way home which was so much fun! Wow! What a colorful city. The boys eyes popped the whole time. Our Tully was too tall on top of our car to fit in the hotel parking garage so we parked in public parking across the street. I just knew the car or all of our stuff would be gone the next morning but it was not. But, we did not pay immediately for the parking and when Ryan went back out to pay there was a boot on the wheel. 90 bucks later, boot was off. What a rip off! NOLA for you I guess.
Poor Cora had a time of it. The was not grass to potty in in NOLA so Ryan shoved her between the fence of the 5th District Court of Appeals across the street.
We ate yummy food and got beads from the parades we saw and had cocktails at Pat O's. Fabulous end to a fabulous vacation!

It is SUMMERTIME!!!!
As always, the school year FLEW by! September always bring excitement and routine and homework and lunches and the thought of May always feels so far away. Then, before you know it, May is here and so is summer.
The end of school has been wonderful for the kids. They had wonderful EOY parties that I got the pleasure of helping at. We had great grades by all the kids and we have had unusually nice weather for this time of year. We also finally got new carpet in the family room and new travertine in the kitchen. You heard it here first folks, the white ceramic tile is no longer a part of the house and we could not be more thrilled! Now, it is not to say it was all peaches and cream while the tile was demo-ed and the new travertine went in. No, that was not so pleasant. Imagine being stuck in your bedroom with you kids/husband/dog (yes, we did get our sweet Cora and we adore her) and everything everywhere else is covered in dust. Thank goodness we knew the end result was going to be fabulous. And, thank goodness it was not more than a few days because in the morning while I was working at the desk in our bedroom and my husband laid in bed with his iPad I might have gotten a little irritated having my space invaded.
So, we are cooped up in my room and we have the new puppy and Ben decides to chew some bubble gum and throw it in the bushes. Ryan specifically told him not to. But, he is 6 and unable to make rational, sound decisions when it comes to his trash. So, out to potty we go and low and behold she steps in gum. A dog's paw and gum don't go well together.
Then, Ben "accidentally" let Cora out of our room and she busted tail (literally) to run to the kitchen and step with all four paws in the set cement stuff they use for the tile. Great! Nice!
Then, the twins had asked if they could make snow cones. I said they could in just a minute. The mantra of my life. So, I am at my desk in my room working and I look out and see Ben licking a snow cone. I go outside to find Hayes scooping ice into the machine and making snow cones. Well, besides being a little impressed that they did it themselves on the flip side I could have been a little irritated. Then I realized better them to do it than me :)
We leave for Florida on Saturday - YEA!!!! So ready! So excited! Beach, here we come! Yes, we are taking Cora and crossing our fingers we don't get kicked out for having a pet in a no pet rental house.

This may be TMI
Tomorrow is a big day for me. I am having my tubes basically tied and I will no longer be able to have babies. I am so conflicted. And, kind of sad. And, kind of glad. Make sense?
Here's the deal. I have an endometrial polyp which causes constant issues as a woman, especially when you wear white. Get it?
So, in order to fix it I need to have an endometrial ablation which will make my uterus unable to carry another baby. So, I am tying my tubes in the process.
Sad.
No little girl in my future.
Then, I think, why am I sad when I have three perfect little boys who bring me the most joy I have ever had and will ever have in my life. I think it is just the fact that it is happening and it is so final. Final. Yep, final.
Sam just came in and we were visitng and he said "ok mommy" in the sweetest voice. He is almost nine and still has the sweetest voice. People may not get this but I have gone thru the mourning process of not having a girl. Yes, it required a mourning process. I always KNEW I would have a girl. A little girl who would hopefully be a great friend as well. My boys are my friends too but it is different. They are boys.
So, tomorrow marks a final passage in my life. It seems so strange. It was not that long ago that I started my married life and then the journey of motherhood and now the window of having children is closing, fast. I am allowed to be melancholy.
It is probably a wonderful thing that the timing of Miss Cora is this weekend as this will be a great diversion. Looking forward to her and our next chapter.
Wine is probably not helping this post :)

Little Miss Cora is a coming
Last year about this time I blogged that my twins were graduating pre-k and headed to kinder. My window of having kids was closing as I am getting older and will be, a-hem, 40 later this year and have an almost 9 year old and two 6 year olds. I thought maybe a puppy was the way to go. Alittle girl puppy to adore and love. Not to mention my boys would be in heaven!
Well, we have done it. The Walton family will welcome Miss Cora Memorial Day weekend and we are excited. At least I am. The boys don't know and we are going to surprise them. Ryan acts like he does not want her but get a few beers in him and he talks all about her.
I am getting a little nervous as we have not had animals other than fish and those die every 3 months and we just flush and replace.
But, I have really given this a lot of thought over the last year and for the last 4 months nonstop. So, get ready Walton boys, a furry girl is coming!

Tooth Fairy made a visit to Hayes
In my last post I mentioned that Hayes had a tooth that bled a little. Well, Monday night Hayes was eating his dinner when he said his tooth was bleeding. Well, it sure was, right out the middle. Took him to Dr. Witte who said his cross bite and his chipped tooth combined to grind the back portion of the tooth away exposing the pulp. Result, toothless Hayes. He is so stinkin cute! Poor guy was really upset about it and did not care for it but had to be done. By last night he was better. Especially because he lost a tooth before Ben. Ben was not pleased about being the only one who had not lost teeth but it has to be someone.

Mommy's Temper Tantrum
This last weekend Ryan went on a boys trip (he deserved it) and I was at home. We had a busy weekend. Starting on Friday, the boys had a field trip to the Ft Worth Children's Museum. I chaperoned and it was fun. The boys had a blast. Next, Ben and Hayes had a baseball game out at the Mini Ballpark. It was a lot of fun to watch and I think fun for them to play. Until Hayes' tooth started bleeding and he was covering third base with a big kleenex sticking out of his mouth. I was taking photos of him and during the middle of the inning, he just turned and walked off. Just turned and went to the dugout. Ignoring me, the coach, everyone.
I guess he had decided he had had enough. He was out the rest of the game. Next up, Mexican food. I was feeling the need for a margarita.
Saturday we hit the donut shop. I proceed to eat 6 sausage rolls throughout the day even though they are not on my "diet." We go to the boys baseball games and it is a beautiful day. We then head to the Foodtruck Festival out at the Ballpark. Can you say YUM??? Well, I was super excited to take the boys. I could not wait to try some delicious food.
We arrive and it is kind of crowded but that is to be expected on a Saturday night. There are bounce houses, face painting and balloon animals along with all the food. We decide on Doughboy Pizza truck and it looks awesome. So awesome that everyone else thinks it looks awesome and we have to wait in a monster line :(
Monster line + Open Space + Brothers = HORSING AROUND until it drove me CRAZY!!!
I kept getting after them and threatened to leave (they called my bluff). Lady behind me said "I would have given up and gone already." Um, is that compliment that I am patient or is that saying my kids are bad little boys? I could not tell so I take it as a compliment.
Get up to the front of the line and the truck has the famous picture of Farrah on it eating their pizza. It is emblazoned on shirts and Sam wants one. I am not sure if his almost 9 year old self just wants a t-shirt or if he wants Farrah. I think it was the t-shirt because once I explained how it was not appropriate to wear to school he lost interest.
Jump to eating the pizza, jumping in bounce houses and getting snow cones. It was fun in the end, at least I think it was looking back on it but in the thick middle I am not so sure I would say it was fun.
Sunday morning, we head out to breakfast. Denny's here we come. Only because IHOP had a line and I was not waiting at 9:30 in the morning for IHOP. Denny's was just a good, even better because they had little choc chip pancakes the kids loved. I could make them at home for nothing but ambience is not the same.
Anyway, they do not act accordingly and in fact are really getting on my nerves and embarrassing me with their non-listening-non-following-directions skills that they are displaying to the public. We get home and they play all morning on and off with LEGOS. They swim, they play in the yard and come back to LEGOS. At this point we have argued about LEGOS for about 2 hours and mommy is done.
Hayes, poor Hayes, comes in at the wrong moment to complain yet again about the LEGOS and Ben and Sam. I said "Do you know what I think about the LEGOS?" I walked out to where they were and I picked up the building and said "This is what I think" and proceeded to throw them onto the ground where they smashed into a million pieces. Yes, I did it. I had a temper tantrum of large proportions (I would not say gargantuan but fairly large).
Hayes runs away crying because evidently he had built the house I broke. He said "I worked hard on that for hours and what was it for? Nothing!" Poor guy. I laughed because he was cute and I knew I over reacted and apologized for my tantrum.
Sweet Sam (and I can't always say that) came up the stairs with the house rebuilt. He did it amazingly fast. Hayes was then happy and I was happy because daddy would be home that night. Phew!

Spring Break
I can't believe that we just finished spring break. That means spring is about here and summer is a coming. We went skiing, weather was beautiful, kids were great and it was fun.
Funny things the kids say...
Hayes: "I don't like Obama because he does not pay taxes."
"I am growing up.:
"Gigi has a crooked little back, she came that way."
Me: "Sam, why make a problem where there is not one?"
Sam:"Hey, its my business card."
Me: "Ben, I made you."
Ben: "No you didn't, God did."
Me: "Sam, I am not your maid."
Sam: "Well, you are kind of my maid because you have been serving me for over 8 years."
Hayes: jumped in the pool and said "Ah, this is the life of supplies."
Ben: "Mom, let me use some of her air conditioning." (hair conditioner is what it was)
Ben; "I have the key to your heart." Awwww......
Hayes and Ben were talking about growing up and getting married and they want to live next to each other. Ben said "Yeah, I am going to just say 'Honey, I am going to Hayes' and she will say 'ok'."
Hayes said he was nervous to get married. I asked why and he said "because people will stand and watch us kiss."
He asked if he and his wife could live with us and I said yes. He said "That will be so fun and then we can talk about all the good times we had."
Hayes: "God wanted our world to be filled with joy and not frustrated people in this tornado world."
Ben: "I can't believe He did that."
Hayes: "The sky does that."
Ben: "You know God made the whole world right, you know that?"
Hayes: "Yes, but he did not make the planets."
Ben: "Yes, He did."
Hayes: "No, he didn't did he mom?"
Me: "Yes"
Ben:" See I told you"
Hayes: "and I agreed with you after."

Party Foul
My hubs dropped and broke two bottles of wine the other night all over the kitchen floor. Looked liked a bloody scene and Hayes said "I am going to pretend that a man slipped and fell and cracked his face open and he bled everywhere and died." Um, ok. Where did that come from??? Boys!

My boys are 6!
Where has the time gone? All of a sudden we are ringing in 2013 and then I blink my eye and my baby boys are 6! They were so excited!!!
Tuesday was their birthday and Ryan and I took them lunch and ate with them. I also sent little cute donut holes decorated with little snowmen for their afternoon snack that they shared with their class. They were so happy!! We are having their birthday party tomorrow at Alley Cats, which is bowling. They each got to invite a few friends from class and they can't wait!
They each requested a different cake. Hayes picked a chocolate cake with an Angry Bird theme and Ben wanted a cookie cake with blue and red race cars on it. So, Sam and I went and picked thhem up today. The Angry Bird cake is DARLING! So cute!! Then we were off to the mall to get the cookie cake. Success, until.....got out to the car and....it slid out of my hand and......dumped upside down in the parking lot!!!!! CRUD!!!
I was scared to look at it but when I did, it actually was not horrible. So, went all the way back in the mall to have it fixed. Thank goodness they did a great job and did not mind doing it. Phew!
Got home, had the boys complete their Valentine's to their friends since Valentine's Day is this week. Got in the hot tub. Rented a movie, fixed popcorn and settled in.
By the way, did I mention, Hayes has strep throat. Pooh!
Luckily, he is feeling much better and we are looking forward to a fabulous birthday party tomorrow!!!
Happy Birthday to my precious little boys! I adore you!!!!

The Flu and Other Bugs
Well, it seems that sickness has decided to settle itself into the Walton household not so long after Christmas. Seriously, we (technically the kids) are out of school for almost 3 weeks and then the second week back a bug decides to invade the house.
On Friday, Mr. Ben had his first playdate withe Mr. Gates and he had the BEST time! It is so important for Ben and Hayes to be their own people with their own friends and Ben had the best time. But, Saturday morning Ben had a fever - over the course of the day it was 101 but it was ok. Saturday night, Ryan starts to feel bad. Fever 99.5.
Sunday morning, Ben wakes up with a 99 degree fever and a lot better. Ryan, on the other hand, was rapidly rising and would end the day with 103.2. As an adult, that is high. So we are thinking it is the flu. Even though we have all had our flu shots the flu is AWFUL this year and will sneak into any unsuspecting person and it did here at our house.
I got Ryan on Tamiflu almost immediately thanks to my dad and the fact that he had some on hand. Monday, all kids are ok for launch and Ryan is down on the couch for the count the whole day.
Tuesday, Hayes has a fever but Ryan is better and we are all good to go. Wait, what is that? At about 2:30 momma starts to have a little soreness in her neck and shoulders and even lower back. Even though the signs are starting to point straight to flu she shrugs it off. You know why? She has a girl trip to LA planned on Thursday and she is going gosh darn it!
Momma picks up kids at 3:15 - Oy ve! I am sore everywhere. When did that happen?
4:00 - Momma takes a bath. Hurting, tired, fever coming up - recipe for FLU!! NO, momma has a trip planned Thursday!
By 6:30 I am in the biscuit (bed for you common folk) and down for the count. Darling hubs came in several times wielding his thermometer and fluids. I am only at 99.5. Thankfully. I am exhausted. I hurt everywhere and can hardly keep the eyes open. I do not wake until 7:30 AM.
This morning, I wake Ryan, I can't get up and take the kids, I hurt and am exhausted. Ben is concerned that dad will not know how to make his lunch = heeee heee hee. I sleep until 9:30 am.
Ryan takes.....BEN only. Sam has a fever, Hayes has a fever and Momma has a fever. Thankfully Tamiflu is a miracle drug and Ryan feels so much better! Ryan calls and gets me Tamiflu too. Our new BFF.
Two parents down would have been anarchy! The kids would have played Lord of the Flies and overtaken us out one by one had we both been sick I have no doubt!
So, Sam is better, Ben is fine, I feel a TON better, Ryan is good and Hayes is left in the sick boat alone. I worry, he has 102.5 and probably has the flu and I am leaving tomorrow for a fun (at least it should be) girl trip. I know Ryan can handle it, he is the best daddy! But, I really hate to be gone while my baby needs me. A sick baby needs his mommy. I am hoping that Hayes feels better in the morning.
Fingers crossed, we are all well by tomorrow!!

Back in the Saddle
Our two and a half week Christmas vacation is over as of 8:20 am tomorrow morning when the bell rings at school signaling the start of the school day in the new year. Yea!!
We have had an exciting few weeks as you already know. But, what you don't is that Ryan and I and some fabulous friends attended the Cotton Bowl at Jerry World. A&M against OU. Johnny Football kicked booty in a one man show and Ryan and I needless to say had a wonderful time. Our OU friends...not so much.
Mom's birthday is this week and we are looking forward to celebrating with her.
The boys are ready to go back to school Except Ben who is nervous and not excited. Did not even eat dinner tonight, Poor Benny!
Next week I fly to LA to see my bestie Casey and Jennifer Drouilhet. We are planning a wine tour in Solvang, a little Sushi in LA and some fun but most of all just getting together.
Not too much else is that exciting, thank goodness!
