Cute random things from the last couple months are:
Bad words belong in the bathroom
So, Hayes likes to say a naughty word every now and again. Seriously, it is so enticing to be bad. I get it. I understand. But, there are limits and there are times and there are places. We were at Sam's baseball game recently and Hayes may or may not have told a woman/man (can't tell so I call it Pat) that Pat was a, and I quote "big fat peen." I can't be 100% sure this occurred but I am 50% sure. So, big discussion about calling names, saying those words, what words are and are not appropriate and when. Then, mom said Andrew and Amy tell their kids to go to the bathroom and shut the door if they have a need to say something inappropriate. I tell my boys. Hayes immediately tests it out. He likes it. He is fine.
Well, tonight Ben blurted something out about me and being a big ...and then he stopped. He ran to the bathroom closed the door and started talking but I could not hear. He came out and said, "I can say that in the bathroom." Whatever that was. I said yes he could. Hayes is on my lap. He is drinking apple juice which was a cute story in itself because Hayes had been crying and Ben went and got him a juice box and when Hayes asked for one Ben said "coming right up." So cute. But, as always, I digress. So, Hayes looks at me with his big beautiful eyes, straw in his mouth, sipping away.
He says, "we can say big fat peen in the bathroom because that is bad and we can't say that except in there." I said, "Yes." He then says, "we can also say f***ing in the bathroom room if we want cuz that is a bad word too right?" "Well, not exactly," I said. "We can't say that ever, not even in the bathroom because that is a bad word that should not even be said." Hayes said "Yeah, a bad person thought of that word".
Side note:
Last night Sam wanted coffee. Why you ask? I have no idea. But when I said to Ryan, Sam wants coffee, what is the deal? Sam laughed and said "all the kids drink coffee nowadays."
I am in trouble if he is a sheep following the pack.
One More:
Hayes had kind of had a tough evening. He dumped Sam's sand vase thing (it basically is a craft with a bunch of sand) down his sink. Great. Then, he broke something. Great. Then he and Ben jump in the bath together. He has his car case next to the tub. He dumps water, because why not?, in the car case. It gets on Ben's Cars themed backpack. I said, Hayes why did you think it was a good idea to dump the water out. Here is where Ben, who is sharing this bath with Hayes, jumps in:
Ben points his finger at Hayes and said, Hayes, #1 you dump sand down your drain, #2 you dump water in to you car case, #3 you get water all over my backpack. What are you doing? And during this he is pointing at Hayes' nose, about 1/2 inch away and then just honks it for emphasis. It was cute and he totally took control. Un oh.

No Tape on My Walls
Who has the "No Tape on the Walls" rule in their home?
You say, probably most people? Well, I might have to limit that to at least adults, since kids seems to be drawn to it like moths to a flame.
Someone please tell me why is it that kids want to use the tape....completely up.....all the time. My kids like to tape misc., random drawings on their walls? And, they love to use tape to fix things that they think needs fixing. We are now entering into a new era, Ben and Hayes have discovered the miracle that is called tape.
I have to interject a little something about my mom because I can now feel her pain. She had a no tape on the wall rule. I remember it. Oh how when the book fair at elementary school came I wanted so many posters. And, I have to say that she was great and indulged that the best she could by telling me that I could tape on my closet and bedroom doors only. So, that is what I did. I covered those bad boys from top to bottom. Puppies, kittens, rainbows, sailboats.
And.... then.....I......discovered.....Jon Bon Jovi! Oh man how I loved that man, as only an 8th grader can. Pink background, close up of Jon with a silver feather shaped charm in his pierced ear. Smile just as cute as button......oh but I digress from tape and how it relates to my adult like not my pre-puberty life of loving Jon (that has actually never left, I still love him).
Just remember this:
If we get invited to your birthday party and we are in need of tape but don't have it... blame my kids.
If I need to tape the back of an envelope because the darn sealant won't stay sticky and licked shut and can't....blame my kids.
If I need to leave a note for my neighbor and can't ....blame the kids.
If my treasured photo gets accidentally torn (it could happen as incidents like that happen all the time around here) and I can't tape it back together because the kids used every last tiny little piece of tape.....blame the kids!
I look forward to the day when the tape returns home to me.
