Summer in Texas is hot. We know this. Summer in Texas is always hot. But wow, we are going on 30 something days now over 100. So, when the boys and I got to go to Snowmass for a few days we were excited. We could hear it calling....cool temps, green grass and trees, beautiful flowers and rain - yes, I said rain.
We landed in Aspen with partly cloudy skies and fresh air. Our first full day had us at the park and eating in Snowmass. Our second day had us zooming up the mountain. The kids love to ride the gondola and so up we went. At the top this year is a climbing wall, a playground and a stocked pond. The kids played at the playground and we ate at the mountain restaurant. Ahhh, we even wore jeans, yes, I said jeans.
Sam climbed the rock wall and did a fantastic job. He did not make it to the top, it was a little high and he was a little wary of the height. So, down he came with a huge smile.
We went back down the gondola and came upon a Eurobungy. The Eurobungy was a small trampoline with bungy cords attached that make one jump high as the sky. Oh, the boys had a good time on that. Ben and Sam flew like superman. Hayes, my little cautious one, got strapped in only to back out. However, he did screw up his courage and finally did it. He did not go nearly as high as the others but he had a blast and could not wait to do it again.
We dropped dad off at the house and then we headed into Aspen. Ice cream at the Paradise is a must. I mean, a MUST. The kids then headed to the playground. Then, they ran through the water fountains that shoot high in the sky. It was fun just to watch their little faces. Of course, they were freezing at the end and shivered like wet puppy dogs.
Andrew, Amy, Abby and Caleb all joined us the next day and we went back up the mountain. The kids fished in the pond, Sam got four fish! He was so excited. Then they all climbed the rock wall again. Sam did it this time. He made it all the way to the top and was so proud of himself.
I actually even got to run outside in the cool mountain air. Now, I did keep an eye out for bears because you just never know. Thankfully, I did not spy one. Man, I enjoyed that weather. We came back last night and whew - hit in the face with a hair dryer set on high heat.
Thankfully, I only have to endure for one day and then Ryan and I are off to Chicago.
